About Dr. Whitehead
I grew up in the small town of Woodville, MS the youngest of three children. I graduated from Wilkinson County Christian Academy in 1992 and in 1996 received my Bachelor of Science in Biology Pre-dental program from Northwestern State University in Natchtoches, LA.
I took a small break from my education and worked as an Agricultural and Environmental Specialist agent for the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. It was a bit of a departure from my chosen career path but I really enjoyed my two years there and I learned a lot.
In 1999 I began my dental career at LSU Health Scieneces Center School of Dentistry where some of the best professors in the country taught us how to be great dentists. I graduated from dental school in 2003 and immediately started working.
My wife, Maria, and I moved to Alexandria in the summer of 2004 and shortly thereafter I purchased this practice from Dr. Louis Joseph who practiced here in Alexandria for 40 years. It was a well established practice that I have brought into the 21st century integrating the latest in dental technology. We use digital x-rays which reduce radiation exposure by as much as 90% over conventional x-rays and do all of our charting and notes on computer to reduce paper use. We also have the ability to do same day crowns using CEREC. CEREC is a state of the art system which uses CAD/CAM technology which allows us to design and manufacture a crown in one appointment. We also have a soft tissue laser that is used for minor procedures like cauterizing ulcers or trauma and performing gingivectomies.
Since moving to Alexandria I have served as secretary, vice president and president of the Central Louisiana Dental Association. I was also the chairperson for The Committee on the New Dentist for the Lousiana Dental Association. After Hurricane Katrina the dental school was inoperable and I mentored a senior dental student to aid in her clinical experience and help her graduate on time.
I have two boys, Matthew and Michael, a lovely wife Maria and an old chocolate lab named Buster. When I’m not busy with school sports or Boy Scout activities I enjoy fishing and working on projects in my shop.
I continually keep up with the latest technologies and techniques in dentistry by attending educational seminars and apply what I learn to my practice.
